MAXXIS Assegai

The most versatile gravity/dh/enduro tire front and rear.

A new tire called Assegai. Even Greg Minnaar, three-time world champion, three-time overall World Cup winner and legend of the sport, collaborated on the development of the new tread.
"My idea was to design a tire that reflected the iconic Maxxis tread patterns," says Greg Minnaar. "I started in the middle of the sample with a combination of Minion DHF and Minion DHR II. The reason was that the DHF rolls well and gives confidence on hard ground, corners, wet roots and rocks. The DHR II added speed and aggression under braking.
Later we added extra teeth to get better wheel performance under load and a consistent feel right down to the side knobs. I can't forget my favorite tire - the Hgh Roller. Together with the experts at Maxxis, we created a redesigned side knob that has very similar characteristics to the original. But with the new support, it's excellent for cutting corners on flat ground.
"I ended up taking the tread height from the Shorty. Since the lugs are well supported, the extra height can bite into the ground in dry and dusty conditions."
